SCRUBBERS:
CLOSING THE LOOP

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE

For the entire maritime community, 2015 marked the beginning of a new era. EU and international rules set new air emission limits for ships operating in designated Sulphur Emission Control Areas (SECAs), including the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the English Channel.

For shipowners, and particularly those with regular operations in the SECAs, these limits have brought challenges, but also opportunities to invest in ever greener technology. Stena Line has been leading the way and in 2015 launched, with the help of EU funding, the “Scrubbers: Closing the Loop” project.
